NQ Arbuckle — X O K

Music Review
NQ Arbuckle's X O K

Neville Quinlan's third NQ Arbuckle album is yet another disc full of alt.country that's perfect for drinking to at your favourite watering hole. Quinlan has always been a strong songwriter and X O K is no exception.

There's something for every kind of alt.country fan here. There are gritty love songs ("I Liked You Right From The Start" and "Huntsville Affair"), tracks which will fuel alcohol-driven singalongs ("X O K" and the bluegrass-laced "Don't Remember Me"), guitar hero antics ("Ontario, Michigan") and even a paean to those who gave their lives in World War I ("Part Of A Poem By Alden Nowlan Called Ypres 1915").

While there are plenty of Toronto references, X O K isn't completely Toronto-centric and namedrops parts of Canada from east to west. There isn't a bad song here and references to provinces from Alberta to New Brunswick mean it's perfect for Canada Day barbeques or pub crawls anywhere in this big country.
