Sony's karaoke franchise makes the jump to the PlayStation 3 with updated gameplay and new online features. As with previous versions of the series on the PS2, the game disc contains 30 tracks from a variety of pop and rock acts like Amy Winehouse, Beck and The Killers along with each music video. Players pick a song and sing along using the USB mics, earning points as they hit the notes correctly. The biggest difference between this and past versions is access to the SingStore, which lets players buy and download new tracks directly from within the game. There are currently just over 200 songs in the store, most of which weren't released on the PS2 games, and Sony plans to add 25 to 50 new songs a month. The songs cost $1.49 each, which isn't bad considering you're also getting the video. New for the PS3 is a feature called My SingStar Online, where players build a profile and upload pictures and audio or video clips of their performances recorded using the mics or the PlayStation Eye camera. You can also rate other people's clips, find your friends' profiles and check out who's the most popular. Fans of the previous releases on the PS2 will likely find this a no-brainer purchase (you can even use your PS2 mics), and newcomers to the series or karaoke fans will find an enjoyable initiation here.
