Once known to a generation as "that dude from The Watchmen" and to another as "that dude from Thornley," Ken Tizzard takes a step into the limelight with this new collection of solo offerings. While this isn't Tizzy's first solo album, it's still a treat to see a disc so devoid of the radio-friendly "modern rock" that he has generally purveyed. In its place, we get a collection of sullen, sombre singer/songwriter blight that bears scars and feelings for all to see. Primarily Tizzard, his guitar and not a whole lot else, he broods his way through an hour of tunes that come off like a vocalized mid-life crisis, best demonstrated by the haunting "Birthday Song." Lost In Awe is a spare, challenging listen, but not one without merit for patient ears.
