My Chemical Romance concluded their
The Black Parade world tour in Mexico City last October, and got rid of the marching band uniforms and white face paint they'd been wearing for the entirety of that tour. Later that month, they played a show at Hoboken, N.J.'s tiny Maxwell's in their street clothes. Their new
The Black Parade Is Dead CD/DVD package documents these two shows. The CD features the entire Mexico City show, while the DVD includes that concert along with the full Hoboken performance. There's nothing particularly spectacular about either of the gigs (whether on CD or DVD), but the contrast between the two shows. Just when you get used to seeing MCR on a gigantic stadium stage, they're performing on a stage so small they can barely move around. The difference in production values is also worth nothing — while the Mexico City show is a slick, extremely professional affair with multiple shots, the Hoboken show is more down and dirty since it features some shaky hand-held camera work and grainy shots throughout. While there's nothing new here, you'll likely come away thinking MCR are a versatile live act, even if you strongly dislike their music.
