With the Warped Tour season now upon us, the timing is ideal for a new Alkaline Trio record to fulfill all your moshing needs. Agony & Irony features 10 new tracks of insular punk thoughtfulness and while the band are now well into their second decade, the angst and energy are still there. "Help Me" and "Over And Out" feature Alkaline Trio's trademark pop-punk smarts and while none of these 10 tracks offer the nuclear aggression of other modern punk outfits, the band more than make up for it by focusing on the hooks and ensuring that each and every song is undeniably likeable. Make no mistake, this record doesn't break even an ounce of new ground. But if you're fond of other breakthrough acts like Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory, you'll probably dig what this Trio are up to.
