The Subways

Music Review
All or Nothing
British trio The Subways released their Young For Eternity debut album in 2005. Now, with this sophomore effort, it seems they tried to grow up too fast. Their playful rock sound was fun to listen to on Young For Eternity. With All Or Nothing, they've gotten harder, though hardly original at all. It's a disappointing move, but at least they ended up with a few songs that will get you moving. "Girls & Boys" and "Kalifornia" are the most notable rock anthems from the disc, while "Move To Newlyn" and "Strawberry Blonde" provide the slower but more melodic tunes. Not giving bassist Charlotte Cooper enough vocals was another disappointing move, as she ended up just doing supporting coos in the background to boyfriend and frontman Billy Lunn. He recovered from major vocal chord surgery before making the album, and thus his voice sounds slightly different than on Young For Eternity. If the question is all or nothing, this is closer to nothing.
