BACKGROUND/COMPOSITION: Looking like a woman who commands respect and dancing, DJ Rekha is a female DJ dressed down in a long "traditional"-looking frock.

Comment: This highly anticipated DJ set was highly disappointing. DJ Rekha set up her pink laptop and slipped right into her set upon arriving on stage. But her big bhangra dance party fit right in with the evening's vibe and the heavily intoxicated crowed jumped right in.

Strengths/Weaknesses/NextStep: 
DJ Rehka is a very peaceful person behind her equipment. Once and a while, a small head nod could be seen, but for the most part she kept to herself, blasting out the world dance beats for which she's become known. However, the peacefulness came off as coldness, and fewer people stayed to dance. Her powerful presence was slightly intimidating.

Strengths/Weaknesses/NextStep: 
Scattering through a bass heavy dance set, DJ Rekha revealed she was not to the greatest mixer. Although she scratched a few times, most of her song transitions were choppy, and she felt more like a selector. The sound cut out a few times as well, which slowly broke their momentum. This show at the Drake Underground was packed with performers who owned the stage and their songs, and DJ Rekha's grip wasn't nearly as tight.

I took a break earlier and went upstairs the main lobby. While I was there, I heard DJ Rekha talking to a manager explaining she had just arrived, quickly eaten, passed out in her hotel room and then came down to play. She said she was feeling very jet lagged and it showed through her set. Visuals were projected on the Underground walls showing a glowing, party princess DJ Rekha, jumping along with another crowd. That woman wasn't present at this show.
