Nasty On @ NXNE 2003
- June 7, 2003
- Toronto, ON
- Horseshoe Tavern
- 3 / 5

Hometown: Vancouver, BC
Background/Composition: Along with fellow Van-city rockers The Spitfires, Nasty On came to T-Dot to inspire the masses with some raunchy old-style rock 'n' roll.
Comment:
The performance was nasty for all the wrong reasons.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Lead singer Jason Grimmer seemed intent on antagonizing any Torontonians in attendance, but he did so in the most sophomoric of ways. He kept referring to the city as "'Ronto" and often seemed to be searching for an insult between songs. At one point he made a jab at Hidden Cameras lead singer Joel Gibb (who had played previous) by noting there was a lot of hair on his microphone.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
The band sounded sloppy and made clumsy transitions, sounding more like a second-rate garage band than a vintage rock outfit. Their most noteworthy tune was a cover -- The Replacements' "Bastards Of The Young" -- and it was clearly the tightest song of the night.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
The band also played a version of Slow's "Against The Glass." It was a well-chosen cover, given that Grimmer displays the same pissy attitude that former Slow singer Tom Anselmi demonstrated during that band's infamous heyday. If this show was any indication, the Nasty On are destined for the same sort of collapse that befell Slow.
