Daybreak @ NXNE 2003

Live Review
NXNE 2003

Hometown: Toronto, ON

Background/Composition: A last-minute addition to Lee's Friday night bill, Daybreak were given the unenviable job of showcasing after Robin Black.

Comment:
Essentially a fill-in for a vacancy created by Hamilton shoegazers Sianspheric, Daybreak created a like-minded wall of noise. That's about all that could be said for this band.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:  The band seemed merely happy to be playing Lee's -- much happier, in fact, than the small portion of the Lee's crowd that stuck around to watch them. The between-song banter was clumsy and the presentation was amateur.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:  Wailing lyrics, whisper-to-a-scream dynamics and very busy drum beats defined most of the band's like-minded tunes. They did manage to get the volume up to ear-bleeding levels a couple of times, but there wasn't much substance behind the noise.
