The Flairs @ NXNE 2003

Live Review
NXNE 2003

Hometown: Vancouver, BC

Background/Composition: Former members of Tuuli and Bif Naked turn down the pop, turn up the rock.

Comment: The band had a great sense of humour and rocked the tiny Cameron House to the ground.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
The Flairs commanded the attention of everyone in the room, despite playing the latest time slot on the last day of the festival and after a significant delay due to technical difficulties setting up. The fact that their presence overcame all these problems is a testament to the band's power.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Expectations for The Flairs were high, and they met the challenge. Their music rocks much harder than any of the members' previous bands. As their first song stated "[they] know how to rock and [they're] ready to roll." The only complaint was that the bass was a bit too loud, overpowering the rest of the music.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Charisma was off the charts, with all the hair-shaking action you would expect from a bunch of experienced rock and roll women. After repeated cries from the audience for their version of "Taking Care Of Business," The Flairs instead ended their too short set with a cover of Skid Row's "18 And Life."
