Hometown: New York, NY
Background/Composition: Two guitars and a drum kit as well as sound effects, samples and a projection of fuzzy camera images in the vein of Sonic Youth, Slint and Yo La Tengo.Reporter:
Achievement of Rock 'n' Roll Expectations80-100: Band exceeds skill and knowledge expectations. Rocked us so hard we peed our pants.
70-79: Band achieves required skills and knowledge. Meets rock 'n' roll standard.
60-69: Demonstrates some skills. Approaches rock 'n' roll standard.
50-59: Band demonstrates some required skills and knowledge in a limited way.
Below 50: Band has not demonstrated required skills or knowledge.
Grade: 75
Comment: A very interesting and entertaining set of music for most of the set. There were some lulls in the set but overall, it was a great example of textural sounds and visuals. This is definitely an act to check out when feeling somewhat subdued.
Learning Skills: E=Excellent, G=Good, S=Satisfactory, N=Sad Really
Oral And Visual Communication
Eye Contact: S
Pronunciation: S
Stage Presence: G
Stage Banter: N
Image: G
Appearance: G
Use Of Stage: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: Due to the nature of their music, there really is no need to for stage banter and as far as image goes, this band was the epitome of what it means to be 'alternative.' The screen projections were cool, and the nonchalance of the band provided enough room to get into their music.
Musical Analysis
Cooperation With Others: G
Level Of Participation: G
Problem Solving: G
Teamwork: G
Work Habits: G
Organization: G
Audience Participation: N
Sound: G
Composition: G
Songs: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: Cool songs. The doubling of guitars was nice as well, though they could have used some bass here and there. The female singer had a very distinct voice and her shy guitar playing was effective. The songs seemed more atmospheric and the beauty of this band was that there was nothing catchy about the songs at all. They compelled the listener to pay close attention to what was going on.
Other Skills And Areas Of Interest
Charisma: G
Sexiness: G
Haircut: G
Indie Rock Footwear: G
Nods To Disposible Fashion: G
Cool Equipment: G
Level Of Inebriation: S
Actual Ability: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: The shyness of the band lent to their appeal. It developed a sense of the audience's involvement with what they were doing and gave a cinematic feel to the moment. Expect to hear some film soundtrack work in the near future if they haven't already done so. The singer girl was really cute and she had a nice orange dress on - or was that the dude?
