4-Star Movie @ NXNE 2000

Live Review
NXNE 2000

Hometown: Toronto, ON

Background/Composition: Three-piece combo, sometimes two guitars, sometimes bass and guitar. Their sound is really interesting due to a broad meshing of musical genres making them cool to watch and listen to.

Achievement of Rock 'n' Roll Expectations
80-100:
Band exceeds skill and knowledge expectations. Rocked us so hard we peed our pants.
70-79: Band achieves required skills and knowledge. Meets rock 'n' roll standard.
60-69: Demonstrates some skills. Approaches rock 'n' roll standard.
50-59: Band demonstrates some required skills and knowledge in a limited way.
Below 50: Band has not demonstrated required skills or knowledge.

Grade: 78

Comment: A blending of country-honk, heaviness, experimental pop and generally just good ol' fun. This is not your typical power pop trio as they lean more towards the intellectual side of experimentation in songwriting.

Oral And Visual Communication

Eye Contact: S
Pronunciation: G
Stage Presence: G
Stage Banter: S
Image: G
Appearance: G
Use Of Stage: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: There wasn't much need for the oral and visual communication they didn't give. Their tunes were more than enough to make up for this. They did tell the odd anecdote here and there which made for a casual set of songs.

Musical Analysis
Cooperation With Others: G
Level Of Participation: G
Problem Solving: G
Teamwork: G
Work Habits: G
Organization: G
Audience Participation: S
Sound: G
Composition: G
Songs: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: The songs, which were very eclectic, made it difficult to figure where this band was coming from. The combination of the separate fragments of genres kept things interesting and the short blast of rock were pretty cool unifying the songs with a bit of coherence.

Other Skills And Areas Of Interest
Charisma: G
Sexiness: S
Haircut: G
Indie Rock Footwear: E
Nods To Disposible Fashion: E
Cool Equipment: G
Level Of Inebriation: S
Actual Ability: G
Strengths/ Weaknesses/ Next Step: The singer's slim black tie was pretty cool to look at and the drummer's insistence of looking down while playing gave a great view of future balding sites on his head. The bass player was simply . . . cool. It doesn't get any more indie than this.
