Background/Composition: The strapping Peter Katz backed by a five-piece mix 'n' match band including a piano player with magic fingers and a rockabilly bassist who needs a shower.

Comment:
Katz surrounds himself with a great band but remains the main attraction of the show with solid songs, interesting lyrics and a smile that makes the whole room blush.

Strengths/Weaknesses/NextStep:  Katz and his band put on a show of very smiley, jazzy pop rock a la Jeff Buckley. At times the smiles and earnestness seem cheesy, but in the end, Katz ends up charming the hell out of the crowd with his innocent banter, unbuttoned shirt and golden vocals. While he has the ability to silence the crowd, Katz also has the power to lose them when he plays his more acoustic songs. He started with electric and then headed into unplugged territory and lost a lot of the listeners.

Strengths/Weaknesses/NextStep:  A violin player was a welcome addition to a somewhat regular pop rock sound. While the genre does get tired after a while, the lyrics and melodies keep the listener hooked. Katz and his band of merry musicians have a tight sound, which comes in handy on the longer songs, which were perfect in length and jam session timing. They weren't showing off, they were just trying to satisfy the audience and make quality music.

Strengths/Weaknesses/NextStep:  Big charm factors include: The band doing a huddle at the side of the stage before the show, Katz luring his band in with his grin and charisma and managing to bring everyone back into the show's final three minutes, which ended with a HUGE round of applause.
