Last Picture Show @ CMW 2006

Live Review
CMW 2006

Hometown: Toronto, ON

Background/Composition: Radio-friendly rock from a well-assembled five-piece outfit.

Grade:
75

Comment:
They have a generic radio-rock kind of sound, but I spent the whole set trying to figure out exactly who they sounded like and came up with nothing. That probably says something.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step: Last Picture Show had a sleek onstage look. The lead singer oozed charisma and had all the moves down, looking like a cross between Mick Jagger and Dave Azzolini (Golden Dogs). But there was one guitar player in a stupid hat and a stupid shirt.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step: There were some nice chords going on, and overall, the band have an engaging rock style. A lot of the songs sound like they're ready-made radio hits (and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way — it's legitimately tough to come up with a good hook).
