Aucoin is Hylozoists leader Paul Aucoin’s brother, but he plays a brand of electronica that’s more drawn from Dan Deacon than any kind of instrumental rock Hylozoists play. His Public Publication debut came out last year.

This was by far the most interesting, engaging and visually amazing set anyone played on Thursday night, and maybe during all of CMW.

Though most of the Horseshoe had cleared out after Zeus finished their set, a good chunk of people stayed for Aucoin, and I bet they’re damn glad they did.
His incredible set incorporated a projection screen with lyrics for the crowd to shout out, and he spent most of the evening off stage in the middle of the audience than he did on it.

This virtually flawless set saw Aucoin come on stage dressed all in white with glowsticks and glow in the dark tape on his arms. Before anyone knew it, glowsticks were thrown into the crowd, confetti was everywhere and Aucoin was jumping all over the place while showing videos of Antoine Dodson, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and the Double Rainbow dude on his projector while his lyrics were going.

The set’s highlight was at the end, when Aucoin pulled out a parachute — the kind you used to use in gym class in elementary school — and got the crowd to hold its edges and flap it up and down, playing a game of popcorn with glowsticks flying everywhere on top. Bands, take note: the bar was set really high Thursday night at around 2 a.m.
