Background/Composition:
This Toronto trio play dirty, dirty Delta blues-influenced punk ‘n’ roll. If you’re in desperate need of a hoedown, go check ‘em out; you won’t be disappointed and you’ll come home sweaty.
Grade: 84
Comment:
Catl spent the evening playing mini-sets next to the stage at during changeovers in an effort to stop boredom between bands. I tip my hat to Dan Burke โ more promoters and bookers need to follow his lead and start doing this.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
By Catl’s second set, the entire area in front of their little makeshift playspace had become a groovefloor, with men and ladies getting down and even some ladies grinding up a storm together.
Not even singer/guitarist Jamie Fletcher introducing a song by saying “this one’s about death” could stop the jiving. I think if there’s a band playing in Hell when I get there, I want it to be Catl.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
At times you could barely hear anything the band were singing because their setup consisted of several mini practice amps that were turned up as high as they could go, which meant things were distorted past the point of comprehension. It didn’t matter โ all people needed to know was the rhythms were damn catchy.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
Drummer Johnny LaRue was dressed all in black with an army cap and shades on, and his massive beard made him look like a strange Mark Everett lookalike.
Fleming sported a classy red shirt with a black tie and a fedora, but the best dressed member was keyboardist/singer Sarah Kirkpatrick, who was decked out in a rhinestone dress with a bow that made her look ilke Dorothy’s lost shoe (not meant to be an insult). This perhaps indicates Catl have some cross-demographic appeal; she would have been as at home in a Church Street gay club (Judy Garland, what what) as in a dive like Comfort Zone.
