On his first proper solo release, we find Dave Navarro in an unsurprisingly dark, somber mood amidst many mechanical audio trinkets of sound. As to be expected, his guitar playing is over-the-top, encompassing a lot of texture and ambiance similar to the many projects he's been affiliated with. The surprise in this release is that his voice and creativity has survived the years of bodily abuse with the results sounding good. His honest approach to his lyrics, albeit depressing, lends itself well to his voice and the overall shape of the songs, but don't expect to hear a revamping of the Jane's Addiction sound. To his credit, Navarro is determined to stand on his own, face his demons and not rely on the past. It's with this conviction that makes this outing a success.
