Any band that decides to tackle a saga of addiction, despair and salvation in the course of 11 songs has a pretty daunting task ahead of them. The group comes pretty close to living up to their ambition. Starting with a batch of songs exploring the upside of excess and indulgence, things quickly hit a downward spiral with the haunting little instrumental "Theme." Unfortunately, much of the second half sticks to a cacophonous, Cult-tinted formula, giving much of the disc a slightly homogeneous feeling that belies the progression of the lyrics. That being said, The Hidden World is still a good album with some very good material — it's just hard to shake the feeling that it could've been an excellent one.
