On the day George "Dubya" Bush was sworn in as the President Of The United States, Sloan drummer Andrew Scott's art opening, The Alphabet, reminded us that we are still on the verge of a nuclear holocaust. Sixteen paintings, dealing with nuclear mushroom clouds, are juxtaposed with a shark painting.
"Initially employed towards global domination, if not destruction, it has spawned possibly the most effective and promising cohesion of global interests since the invention of the alphabet," reads the press release promoting Scott's art exhibit. While the timing was not planned, the opening was heightened by the fact that a new president who has been closely connected to the CIA in the past and has little comprehension of world politics or geography.
The show runs until Feb. 1 at the Zsa Zsa Gallery located 962 Queen St. West in Toronto. It's directly across the street from the psychiatric hospital, which also has an art gallery. Scott, studied painting at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax before becoming a full-time drummer in Sloan. Those wishing to talk to the artist about the mushroom cloud paintings or the shark might find him at the gallery next weekend.
