I asked if I could take some photos of Australian singer-Songwriter, Lenka at her gig at The Drake Underground. I only wanted five minutes for the shoot. (There is kind of quality curve to shots where if the person is comfortable being photographed then the first 5-10 minutes give the best photos followed by those taken in the last ten minutes. )
I was told that I would have to shoot Lenka in her hotel the next day so I brought a quick prop that I knew would only require a table and a window to work. I didn't give her much direction and she sat down and started writing on the typewriter as soon as she arrived. I wrote a message to her on the type writer. "Hello, my name is Joseph and I am your photographer". It was snowing outside so I also wrote, "I hope you like snow".
I think I may have had less than five minutes before her publicist dragged her away. Right after everyone left the manager came as I was tearing down the lights and asked what I was doing. I told them I had just done a photo shoot and he said that I needed permission of the owner. Lenka was very sweet and very easy to photograph.
