In case you've been living under a rock, here's a quick synopsis of Avril Lavigne's career: Avril came out and it was, like, "Whoa. It's Britney, but totally punk." In the malls it was cool. Then she got popular and it was, like, "Whoa. She's so not punk, what a sellout, she won't pierce her face with a screwdriver." And there was a backlash. Then she was up for all kinds of awards and it was, like, "Yeah, we'll give you a couple lame ones. But you ain't getting any real good awards because you're too young." That kinda sucked, so people stopped hating a little. Then it was, like, "Alright, we've figured it out, she's not trying to be the Ramones, so she's OK." And it was OK. Admittedly, this has very little to do with Avril getting some fancy plaques from SOCAN a couple weeks ago for scoring multiple #1 hits. But it did give us a reason to write a whole paragraph in valley girl-speak, and sometimes that's all that matters.
