The Whitest Boy Alive is the latest project from Erlend Øye, better known as one half of The Kings Of Convenience. It capably bridges the gap between Øye's electronic solo work and The Kings' acoustic, melodic fingerpicking. In fact, TWBA started out as an electronic project, but Øye morphed it into a four-piece rock outfit. The songs are dynamic and upbeat, punctuated by funky, disco-influenced bass lines and short, sharp guitar chords. Øye's mellow vocals put an intriguing spin on the overall effect. Even though the band have phased out the electronic element, the songs have a strong heartbeat that gets under the skin in the best way possible.
