Now Hear This is a daily dive into the standout songs of the day. Today, Partner are the ambassadors to Ecstasy, Tory Lanez doesn't feel the love he sings about, and A Tribe Called Red and Tanya Tagaq have a song you could spend all day listening to.
Partner, "Ambassador to Ecstasy"
An ambassador is an accredited diplomat who's sent to a foreign state by a country as its official representative. In this instance, Sackville, NB slack rock band Partner represent — in some official capacity — the good land of Ecstasy and they've been sent to welcome an esteemed guest. It's a big, dorky power pop song about the sometimes dorky moment you decide to show someone your sexual side. The live performance video was directed by Colin Medley for YCTV and the song is likely to appear on a forthcoming album. - Chris Hampton
A Tribe Called Red ft. Tanya Tagaq, "SILA"
After hearing A Tribe Called Red drop their Tanya Tagaq collab at WayHome 2016 I said it "sounded so good I need to hear it again immediately." It took a couple weeks, but it was worth the wait. In an interview with Noisey, Ian Campeau says that the DJ trio initially sent some tracks to Tagaq, but then ended up building something entirely new around her throat singing, similar to how they did with the pow wow music of their earlier recordings. With Tagaq in tow, they're totally world-shaking. I need to hear it again immediately. - Richard Trapunski
A Tribe Called Red's We Are The Halluci Nation is out September 16 via Pirates Blend.
Tory Lanez, "Cold Hard Love"
Brampton-born singer Tory Lanez is just over a week out from his Interscope debut and he's dropped another breadcrumb to keep us close. "Cold Hard Love" is a chilly electro R&B cut. Your ear huddles close to Lanez's artful cooing for warmth, but the words, you realize, are more wintry still: "Uh, what if I told you I ain’t know love/And all the chicks I'm with I don't love/ Shit still getting harder for me when I'm trying to find it alone/ But I know I'm supposed to be grown up." - Chris Hampton
