Vashti Bunyan's musical career began 34 years ago when her first album Just Another Diamond Day fell into obscurity, then picked up a cult following decades later, setting the template for freak folk. Perhaps she's tired of all the music industry's infamous quaalude orgies, but her third album Heartleap will be the last.

"Holy Smoke" is featherlight and awash with an assemblage of different strings echoing their fanciness. But it's never sparse. The instrumentation resembles a dewy forest canopy hit by the sun at just the right angle. Showers of light are let in between the leaves, and everything around glows a little bit more golden in its presence.

Vashti Bunyan's new album Heartleap is out October 7 via DiChristina.
