Deafheaven make lofty metal, spill boiling water on new single “From the Kettle Onto the Coil”

Black metal meets post-rock meets Kitchen Nightmares.

- Aug 25, 2014

Deafheaven's contribution to the Adult Swim Single Series has been one of the collection's most anticipated tracks. "From the Kettle Onto the Coil" is finally here, and though its title may remind you of your filthy stovetop, the group's post-rock laced metal should bring you slightly loftier ennui.

Like their breakout album Sunbather (one of the albums that defined 2013), the operative words seems to be "woosh," but never without a few twists: it emerges like a beast on the horizon, guitars pumping magma through its veins and a thunder in the drums like competing hearts in the same chest. A grungy, mountaintop solo heralds the song's dip into simmering embers, a respite that makes the return of the earth-puncturing sounds that much more titanic.

Deafheaven's new album Sunbather is out now via Deathwish. Download "From the Kettle Onto the Coil" at Adult Swim.
