Hear the final two songs from Nicolas Jaar’s Darkside

You'll have to go elsewhere for atmospheric electro from a Chilean producer/New York guitarist combo.

Darkside is no more. The project from Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington gave us a single self-titled record of progressive electro you could really obsess over (and an unofficial Daft Punk remix album), but they've announced that their show on September 12 in Brooklyn will be their last. On the bright side of Darkside: two new songs recorded during their debut LP's sessions, to be released on the upcoming compilation WORK on Jaar's label Other People.

"What They Say" feels like a tossed album opener: lots of zipping synth lines cut through layers of guitar and synth fog, as it eventually coasts  into a realm of high pressure bass hits. "Gone Too Soon" knows what it is from the beginning: oil-slick funk casting a long a thick shadow across Jaar's dismal mutter, a jam session of distorted bongos and paranoid licks, approaching a sunrise. RIP to these guys.

The final two Darkside tracks will be released September 29 on the WORK compilation, out via Other People. Read Dave Harrington's picks for ESSENTIAL ALBUMS. They are good.
