A cover, an original, and bittersweet cover art.

2014 has been sweet to Perfect Pussy and Joanna Gruesome, two of punk's hardest working new groups. Below you can stream two tracks from a new 7" they'll release later this year, with a new song and cover from each band.

Joanna Gruesome's original track "Psykick Espionage" is shouty, Pepsi-flavoured punk with a sugary twee chorus. Then all that daylight hits a bloody eclipse, and Perfect Pussy's cover of "Leash Called Love" kicks in. The original Sugarcubes track is a perfect fit for a band adept at channeling miserable relationships into art, though what starts off as a reverent tribute (Björk vocals and all) darkens considerably as the second half melts the pop jam away and into a mound of mirrored tape screams and funereal synth taps.

When the 7" drops, you'll also get Joanna Gruesome cover I Hate Myself's "...Keep Reaching For Those Stars" and the new Perfect Pussy tune "Adult World (The Secret)." I think I know what book they might hate!

The Perfect Pussy/Joanna Gruesome 7" is out this fall via Slumberland/Captured Tracks/Fortuna Pop.
