With "Can't Do Without You" and now "Our Love," a pattern is beginning to emerge on Caribou's new album. On both songs Dan Snaith streamlined his brand of psychedelic electronica, a kind of summoning that romantics could link to the enamoured voices breathing the titles, the most prominent words in the entire song.
"Our Love" is less heart-swelling and more of a hyper-focused dancefloor filler. It sort of leapfrogs the Disclosure lads in that it pulls from the same strains of UK garage and house, but organizes them with a freer hand. The more shambolic first half is marked with the spindly Tom Krell-ish vocals, synths shimmering like wind chimes and hints of the iconic honking bassline that comes to dominate part two, a thumping self-aware machine gradually building itself up with classic house tropes. It closes with a string section, in case you didn't catch all that grandeur.
