Half Japanese pick up where they left off with “In Its Pull”

Thirteen years after their last album, the brothers Fair still have ample access to the weirdness cortex.

During the '80s it seemed like Half Japanese were on some kind of decade long free association streak, given the prolific output of Jad and David Fair's pioneering outsider rock group. The world hasn't seen a new record from the miles off-kilter duo in thirteen years, but there's a new one coming this summer, and "In Its Pull" picks up where they left off. Half Japanese always felt like they were free-climbing their songs, thanks to a reckless and slightly wild countenance that disavowed unwarranted sloppiness. It's comforting to hear that disarming vibe return.

Half Japanese's new album Overjoyed is out August 2 via Joyful Noise; pre-order it here.
