We've taken to calling Digits Toronto's sultan of synth, but his new single, which we're premiering below, proves yet again that Alt Altman is much more than just his beats. "The Day You Fight Back" is the title track of his new EP, released to coincide with his tour with his dates opening for Dan Deacon and St. Vincent, and he's using it to stretch his legs into bossa nova territory. Yes, that is acoustic guitar you're hearing. Alt explains below the stream:

I was trying to make this EP a little less dance-pop and see what sort of things I came up with. This is the first Digits song ever to feature acoustic guitar, and there are hardly any drums, just a tiny bit of percussion. I've always been a huge João Gilberto fan.

I can't say it really changed how I wrote, I still used the same software and loop-based songwriting techniques. I often begin writing my dancier songs with a very stripped down arrangement, sometimes even on guitar, and then later add the beats. So this time I just didn't add any beats.

Digits' new EP The Day You Fight Back is out June 10. Check out his Canadian tour dates with Dan Deacon and St. Vincent below.
