At the rate all these hooky CanRock-flavoured power pop jams are coming out, it seems like Big Shiny Tunes is becoming this generation's The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Marvelous Mark (a.k.a. Mark Fosco) is best known as the writing partner for Fucked Up guitarist/producer/prolific songwriter Ben Cook in Marvelous Darlings and Roommates, but he's stepping out on his own with "Bite Me." More than just a '90s-polite way of saying "blow me," the song's title and subject matter is inspired by an experience grossly familiar to many in the last decade or so. Mark explains in an email to Chart Attack:
Basically, I wrote the song in the throes of a deep depression shortly after discovering a bed bug infestation in the squat I was living in at the time. I was feeling quite disgusted with everything. The original version was recorded in a room in an old coffin factory, mostly in the dark. Luckily, Ben gathered the resources for me to record the single version in a nicer setting with nicer, more knowledgable people.
Happily, these days are a little brighter. Going from here I have much more music to release in the coming months, along with other fun things in the works.
