Listen: Craft Spells’ sweeping, orchestral “Breaking The Angle Against The Tide”

Justin Vallesteros' bedroom pop project is back with a bigger sound.

Although it debuts at the centre of "Breaking The Angle Against The Tide," the sweeping orchestral movement is not the heart of the new Craft Spells song. To be certain, another once-bedroom pop band with increased ambition adding such an overwhelmingly cathartic element could hint at a desperation to break from the pack.

That's not the case here, though: the strings are a substrate, and Justin Vallesteros' tandem-riding guitar and vocal melodies are instantly buoyed by their presence. As they begin to melt in and out of each other, Vallesteros' subdued kiss-off (from him, the line "You've wasted too much of my time" sounds like an invitation) hits an endearing rather than cloying mark.

Craft Spells' new album Nausea is out June 10 via Captured Tracks; pre-order it here.
