"Penetrating Eye," the new single from Thee Oh Sees, is the San Francisco band reimagined as awful eyeball aliens, making first contact with an unworthy human race. The leering title casts an insidious shadow over the rest of the track, from its Close Encounters synth noodling of the intro to the hive-minded sing-song "la las" on the chorus. Of course, it's not like the band's trademark crunch was patently friendly, but now their garage rock sounds like pure death ray fuel.

Thee Oh Sees' new (and maybe final) album, Drop, is out April 19th via Castle Face; pre-order it on vinyl here.
