“I'm so lonesome I could cry” Angel Olsen broods on new single “Hi Five,” bringing Hank Williams' timeless sentiment into our era of vacuous and emotionally crippling social media exchanges. There's no mention of Likes or Retweets, but the physical disconnect (“We don't have to take it to extremes/We'll keep our hands, our legs, even our lips apart”) and the masochism in pining for someone just as lonely as you ring true with the digital habits that occasionally bleed into our world apart from screens. Sonically, Olsen is adrift from her established acoustic intimacy, and floats on top of snarling and shocked guitars towards some enormous waterfall, calling out for someone to share her barrell.
