Hang ten. Gnar tubage. “Get Tight.” Known for impressively considered shoegaze, London four-piece Cheatahs are now committing to the addled pop-punk a la Wavves that they’ve previously taken baby steps towards. The vocals are transmitted from the same back-masked future dimension Kevin Shields lords over, but otherwise it’s pure Sub Poppy overdrive with sections of soloed drum flailing and one tense, barely resolved ascent, everything cross-hatched creatively like an unusual flannel shirt.
Cheatahs’ debut album is out February 10th via Wichita.
