[listen] Azekel, “Get It On”

Some slow-burning washed-out soul to close out yer day.

There's nothing better than xxyyxx's “Alone,” a sweltering expanse of post-dubstep production that wobbles and fractures like a mirage. There's also nothing better than T.Rex's “Get It On,” the classic rock tune that's now the go-to track when you need a soundtrack for a nacho ad. And east London soul singer Azekel, smart bugger that he is, has combined them both, crooning the Rex lyrics over xxyyxx's instrumental. With a delivery that's more Barry White than Mark Bolan, Azekel soulful and pleading tones bring out the best in the very different kinds of sexiness in both pieces of music.
