Online, Robb Bank$ can come off as petulant and resentful of his fans. In other words, young, and a star. But recently he's been more prolific online, engaging with fans and the social media game that's so vital to succeeding in today's rap industry. So it's not too much of a surprise that he dropped “I'm That Nigga” last night. It's the culmination of Bank$ reasserting himself as one of Florida's most promising emcees.

“I'm That Nigga” isn't the same Robb Bank$ that made Calendars. Everything is more focused with nothing left to waste. The beat is something you'd hear looped in an abandoned mall twenty years from now, bleakly coloured by dystopian strings with the occasional gunshot and Macbook volume sound. Think Liquid Swords meets SpaceGhostPurrp, all traces of cloud rap gone. And maybe it's all the codine, but Bank$' flow is slower, more measured. This isn't a bad thing - it hardens the impact of his punchlines, those famously juvenile Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z references. He opens the track with a nod to his role in the melee at ASAP Rocky's recent Florida show and closes it with a MewTwo analogy, bookending the song with an apt summary of the Robb Bank$ dichotomy, and why his potential for popular appeal ranges from the alley to the suburbs. And he's aware of it. That's why the hook, where he chants “I'm still that nigga,” is not bravado. Year of the Savage drops in 2013.
