Admittedly, I didn’t know who Sky Ferreira was before her new song “Everything is Embarrassing,” but after some research, it seems like I maybe, probably should have, because lot of other people do know who she is. Which makes her 180 turn from this and this to her latest song “Everything is Embarrassing” all the more surprising. It could come off as disingenuous if “Everything is Embarrassing” wasn’t so damn alluring. A nice and clean eighties-tinged pop song that’s indie dance club ready, it’s produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (of Usher and Cass McCombs fame) and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, which becomes obvious through the restraint and Ferreira’s wonderfully heartfelt melody. Her upcoming EP Ghost is set to feature contributions from Jon Brion, so it seems that the former pop princess is in good hands. Probably.
Her EP Ghost will drop October 2 via EMI.
