Hodgy Beats and Domo Genesis have teamed up to form “MellowHigh,” and even if this will be the sum total of the group’s output, there’s no better producer to help you announce your arrival than Lex Luger, who handles the boards on “Timbs.”
Luger forgoes his Fruity Loops-dominating trap for a less abrasive but no less commanding orchestra-sampling joint. It’s not a soulful 180 like his work on “Grooveline Pt. 1,” but each of Luger’s new directions seem to be just as promising as the last one. And both Domo and Hodgy have come a long way since their respective debuts: their flows are tighter and more complex, and their braggadocio is (thankfully) more mature, and even believable. Tracks like this should help keep the hype machine burning till their next albums drop.
