If there’s anyone who deserves a stage introduction where his head is formed out of a constellation of stars, it’s Dr. Dre. And if one man can make a five-knuckle ring with his name on it seem absolutely necessary, it’s Snoop Dogg. And this past weekend, both of these larger-than-life hip hop giants closed Coachella with a collaborative performance.
Exciting as this titanic reunion is, the biggest news to come out of it was the announcement that notable dead person Tupac Shakur would be making an appearance, via hologram. And that’s just what “he” did, performing “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” and solo joint “Hail Mary.” The duo also performed a tribute to the recently deceased Nate Dogg with a much more modest but no less touching slideshow. Both men pulled out their platinum rolodexes for the show; Eminem, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifia and Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt and Warren G all took the stage to give all the classics the finishing touches they deserve.
