Polaris Music Prize 2010 Long List Revealed

It looks to be an extremely tough year to get on the Polaris Music Prize short list.

The long list of 40 albums was revealed this afternoon, and it contains numerous artists who've been short-listed or long-listed for Polaris in previous years, along with a slew of newcomers.

A jury of over 200 Canadian journalists, broadcasters, bloggers and programmers voted for their five favourite Canadian albums released from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010.

The long list was announced at an event at Toronto's Drake Hotel that featured appearances from Jill Barber, D-Sisive, Fucked Up's Damian "Pink Eyes" Abraham and Elliott Brood.

The 40 albums will be further reduced to a short list of 10 albums. That will be revealed July 6 at Toronto's Drake Hotel. The winner will be announced during a gala ceremony on Sept. 20 at Toronto's Masonic Temple.
