Sum 41 Bassist Releasing Another Operation M.D. Album

Rock 'n' roll history is filled with roll playing and aliases, from David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust to The Beatles making an entire album as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Some take this conceit a little far. Take, for example, Jason McCaslin. While playing in his main band, Sum 41, McCaslin has adopted the moniker Cone. He has also been known to get glammed up in Sum 41's alter ego band, Pain For Pleasure.

And now, his The Operation MD side-project are set to release their second album, Birds + Bee Stings, and he'll reprise his Dr. Dynamite persona.

Dr. Dynamite and his cohort, Dr. Rocco (aka H20's Todd Morse), have collaborated on a sound that marks a bit of a departure from the energetic pop-punk for which they're known. The album is more of a garage record, borrowing heavily from acts like The Hives and Violent Femmes.

The Operation MD were helped out by Billy Talent guitarist Ian D'Sa of Billy Talent and Sum 41 singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley. D'Sa produced lead single "Buried At Sea," and Whibley mixed "Sick And Twisted." "Buried At Sea" is available for digital download now.

Proving they aren’t all just fun and games, The Operation MD have also contributed their "We Stand" to the upcoming Song for Africa – Rwanda Rises Up, out June 22.

Birds + Bee Stings is out June 29 as a digital-only release.

Both members of The Operation MD are busy with their day gigs. Cone will be hitting the road on the Vans Warped Tour once Sum 41 drummer Steve-O has recovered from his recent oopsie, while Morse and H2O are touring to celebrate the band's 15th year of existence.
