Broken Social Scene Top Canadian Album Sales Chart

It looks like indie rock has finally beaten out nu metal, 10 years later. Well, in Canada, at least.
Broken Social Scene's Forgiveness Rock Record debuted at the top of the SoundScan album sales chart in Canada this week, outselling Godsmack's newest CD, The Oracle.
The Toronto-based collective's first album since their 2005 self-titled debut album also showed up on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart south of the 49th parallel, but didn't do as well, debuting at #34.
Further down the Canadian chart, The New Pornographers' Together debuted at #14. While Canadians may have been more keen on buying the new BSS, The New Pornographers bested them in the U.S., debuting at #18 on the chart there.
Maybe it was the five-year wait that did it in Canada. Broken Social Scene, while popular in the United States, are not nearly as lionized as they are at home, and The New Pornographers have a pretty straight track record of releasing an LP every two years.
Both acts are touring in support of their respective albums.
