Dave Grohl Sees Doctor Due To Caffeine Addiction

Ever wonder how Dave Grohl manages to play such insane drum rolls and why he's always seemingly hyper? It's because he consumes waaaaaaaaaaay too much caffeine, apparently.

Them Crooked Vultures
just released a video called "Fresh Pots," which documents Grohl's caffeine addiction for the entire interwebs to see.

In it, his band mates reveal he drinks up to five pots (!!!!!) of coffee a day... and that his excessive caffeine consumption caught up with him when the band were recording the follow-up to their 2009 self-titled debut album.

"Two weeks after this video was shot, Dave was rushed to [the] doctor due to the onset of unwanted physical effects caused by too much caffeine," a message at the end of the video reads. "For reals. He was kind of a mess.

"Since then he has reduced his intake of the super delicious hot beverage to a healthier level."

Just how much is too much caffeine? Well, according to the American Psychiatric Association, a person can begin to experience "caffeine intoxication" (seriously) when they consume more than 300 milligrams of caffeine. This, of course, depends on their caffeine tolerance and weight.

Symptoms of "caffeine intoxication" include jitters, gastrointestinal disturbances, nervousness, muscle twitches and other problems. (Makes you wonder how Grohl gets anything done.)

Just how many cups of coffee do you have to consume before intoxicated? Well, depending on how you make your coffee there can be up to 100 milligrams of caffeine per cup (if you make it by drip, which Grohl does). Basically, that means you could get really, really high on coffee after having about three to four cups, depending on your tolerance. (This lightweight can only handle one.)

But if you drink much, much more than this, you can actually die from an overdose of caffeine! The APA estimates this can happen at about 150 to 200 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of your body mass, or basically 80 to 100 cups of coffee in a limited period of time. We don't really know how this is possible, but anyway...

Most standard coffee pots can hold about 12 cups of coffee, and the average mug can hold about two cups, so that's about six mugs of coffee per pot.

If Grohl consumes five pots a day and the pot holds 12 cups of coffee, he's drinking about 30 mugs of coffee a day, which is still insane and probably really, really bad for him in the long run, but it hopefully won't make him drop dead.

Still... curb the caffeine, dude. That can't be good for your heart, especially when you're hammering away on those toms.
