Thrash metal (can Metallica still be called thrash metal?) and prog-rock have a surprising amount in common. They're both highly technical forms of music and use a lot of over-the-top imagery.
So it's only appropriate Metallica's manager's come up with an idea to stage a tour that he says is the "equivalent" of Pink Floyd's 1980 to 1981 jaunt in support of 1979's The Wall.
"Let's just say next year you will see a Metallica tour that will blow your mind," Peter Mensch told Classic Rock magazine. "They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be Metallica's equivalent of The Wall."
There's no other information about the trek just yet, nor whether it will be in support of a new album, considering Metallica's last release was 2008's Death Magnetic. But Classic Rock reports Mensch told their writer to check out videos by opera singer Renee Fleming on YouTube. Curious...
In the meantime, you can see singer/guitarist James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett, bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Lars Ulrich here:
