Not even the grave can keep James Brown down.
Well... that's because his daughter says his body has been stolen.
LaRhonda Pettit had kept her father's body at her South Carolina home since Dec. 25, 2006 after it was put in a crypt. She had been watching over it while a mausoleum for Brown was being constructed. But now she says it is nowhere to be found.
"My daddy's body has disappeared," Pettit told the U.K.'s Daily Mirror tabloid. "I have no clue where it was taken, but I need to know where."
Pettit now says she thinks someone has moved her father's body to stop an autopsy from being conducted. Brown was found dead on Christmas Day 2006 of an apparent heart attack.
"I'm convinced his death was suspicious and I want the people responsible brought to justice. The only way to do that is to exhume his body and have an autopsy.
"It was common knowledge daddy took illegal drugs until his death. He was also hooked on painkillers. At the very least there were enablers who helped cause his death."
Despite holding her father's body at her home, Pettit was not recognized in Brown's will. Pettit says Brown had an affair with her mother in the 1960s, and though she's not included in his will a DNA test found she is 99.9 per cent likely to be his daughter, according to the Daily Mirror.
Brown's other six children were named as beneficiaries in his will.
Pettit and 12 other people claimed to be one of Brown's illegitimate children following the Godfather Of Soul's death.
