Eight Reasons Corey Haim Was Cool

Corey Haim
Canadian actor Corey Haim, famous for his collaborations with Corey Feldman — they were collectively known as "The Two Coreys" — died of a suspected prescription drugs overdose on Wednesday (March 10) morning.

Emergency personnel arrived at Haim's apartment near Burbank, Calif. in the wee hours of the morning, finding him still alive but very weak from "fly-like symptoms," according to Radaronline.com. He was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. local time.

Haim was just 38 years old.

Rather than dwell on the sadness of Haim's passing, we at CHARTattack prefer to celebrate what made him awesome. Here are eight reasons why Corey Haim was cool:

1. The Lost Boys. You've gotta love a movie about a gang of teenage vampires. Twilight fans have no idea how stupid their favourite movie franchise is in comparison. At least The Lost Boys had a sense of humour.

2. Haim grew up playing keyboard, collecting comic books and playing hockey. He preferred all three to acting, but when his mom enrolled him in acting so he could get over his shyness, his life changed.

3. Dream A Little Dream. The third film starring The Two Coreys was a hit with teens and gave Michael Damian a chart-topping hit in the United States with his version of "Rock On."

4. Haim battled prescription drug addiction throughout his career. He claimed to have overcome his addiction in 2004 when he moved back to Toronto, but his career was mostly stalled throughout the '00s. That, of course, prompted The Thrills to write "Whatever Happened To Corey Haim?"

5. This episode of Celebrity Deathmatch... against Feldman:

6. During HorrorHound Weekend in March 2009, Haim and G Tom Mac performed an impromptu version of "Cry Little Sister," from The Lost Boys soundtrack, after the night was over. Haim knew the party doesn't stop just because there's a particular time showing up on a clock:

7. Haim's surname comes from the Hebrew word "Chai," which means life. In Judaism, it's popular to make toasts while shouting, "L'haim" (also transliterated as "l'chaim"). Tonight, make a toast and celebrate Corey Haim's life.

8. Perhaps most awesomely and hilariously of all, Haim starred in a 1993 Sega CD video game called Double Switch. In it, he plays a character trapped in a basement, who the player has to set free. But it turns out he's actually insane and starts killing all the other tenants in the house.
