Here's something we could only have thought up in our wildest musical fantasies (actually, that's not true, since we could never have thought this up in those, either): Alexisonfire and Primus singer/bassist Les Claypool will perform on the same stage at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame gala, and they'll both be playing Rush songs.
If the idea of Alexisonfire wailing "Closer To The Heart" is quite possibly the weirdest thing you've heard in a while, it is nonetheless true. The St. Catharines, Ont. screamo quintet will play that song on March 28 at the Toronto Centre For The Performing Arts, likely confusing the hell out of everyone in the auditorium over the age of 40.
Claypool, meanwhile (who isn't even Canadian... ??), will do "Spirit Of Radio." Since his bass technique is influenced by Geddy Lee, this makes a little bit more sense, but we bet everyone is still going to be extremely confused when he shows up on stage wearing goggles and some kind of British army outfit from the 19th century.
Christian folk singer/songwriter Jacob Moon, who became a YouTube sensation for his rendition of Rush's "Subdivisions," will perform that song at the gala.
On the francais side of things, Robert Charlebois will be on hand to be inducted into the Hall, while DJ Champion will perform Michel Pagliaro's "J'Entends Frapper." Other artists being inducted into the hall include Guy Latraverse, Edward B. Moogk, Ovlia Legare and Germaine Dugas.
If you want tickets to this absolute mishegas (Yiddish for "insanity"), you can get 'em now starting at $110 (yes, that reads "starting at") through Ticketmaster, the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame website or the Toronto Centre For The Performing Arts' website and box office.
