There are five members of Stars, which might explain the title of their upcoming fifth studio album, The Five Ghosts. (This is beginning to look Joel Plaskett-esque.)
The disc is out June 22 through the band's own Soft Revolution Records label, which is being distributed by Universal Music Canada. It was recorded in Montreal and includes a guest appearance from Broken Social Scene and Apostle Of Hustle's Andrew Whiteman.
Tom McFall, who handled 2005's Set Yourself On Fire, returns as producer on the follow-up to 2007's Polaris Music Prize short listed In Our Bedroom After The War.
"We have never written an album with this much cohesion and unity," singer/guitarist Amy Millan says of The Five Ghosts. "It is the first time we've had the luxury of being together in a huge room writing songs off the floor. The Five Ghosts is quintessentially Stars."
First single "Fixed" will be released in April, and the band will soon announce a club tour in support of The Five Ghosts. They'll perform the album in entirety on the trek, which will also include hits from their discography like "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead," "Take Me To The Riot," "Ageless Beauty" and others.
No dates have been announced, but here's a "making of" video about The Five Ghosts to tide you over for now:
"Dead Hearts"
"Wasted Daylight"
"I Died So I Could Haunt You"
"Fixed"
"We Don't Want Your Body"
"He Dreams He's Awake"
"Never Been Good With Change"
"The Passenger"
"The Last Song Ever Written"
"How Much More"
"Winter Bones"
