If you're D'Angelo, allegedly asking for a $40 blow job will get you arrested.
The R&B crooner, famous for the video for "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," in which he's entirely nude, reportedly hit up a woman for some mouth love in New York City on Saturday (March 6), only to discover she was actually an undercover cop. Oops.
D'Angelo (real name Michael Archer) is said to have thought the woman was a sex worker when he approached her at around 2:30 a.m. and asked her for a $40 blow job, according to the New York Post. She then arrested him and he was charged with solicitation.
Police later found $12,000 U.S. in his car, so apparently he was lowballing (pun fully intended) it with that $40 offer.
D'Angelo's since been released from jail.
A post on his MySpace blog on Monday (March 8) the singer has pleaded not guilty to the solicitation charges and is "contesting the allegations made against him."
"D'Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions," the statement reads.
D'Angelo hasn't had the best luck with hummers, be they the blow job kind or the automobile kind. In 2005, he was hospitalized after he lost control of his Hummer, hit a fence and it flipped over. This attempted hummer, on the other hand, never even got off the ground.
D'Angelo's last record was 2000's Voodoo, which contained "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." He's been working on its follow-up, which is said to be called Untitled (James River), since, but has been plagued with legal problems. The record is scheduled to be released sometime this summer.
